The design life of BLDC motors can approach the design life of their call bearing components. Unlike PMDC motors, BLDC motors use solid state circuitry to control the voltage and current in the armature windings. By eliminating carbon brushes that wear out and cause motor failure in PMDC motors, the life expectancy of BLDC motors is greatly increased. A twenty fold increase in motor life is not uncommon when PMDC motors are replaced with BLDC motors in the same application. When motors life and precise control are primary design concerns, the BLDC motor is the best technology choice.
